A newly developed retaining block was tested for the first time on this site located on the R44 to Klapmuts, next to the N1 in the Western Cape. This site was earmarked by the owner as a restaurant and conference centre as he recognised a growing need for corporate business venues situated outside the CBD.

This project, on Hendrik Verwoed Drive, Plattekloof, Parow, was Initiated by Natalie du Preez  from Acucap (Landlord for the Park) due to  constant erosion problems and  partial collapses of the embankment, as well as unsightly embankments.

Says Erik Raymond of Ekcon Consulting Engineers: “Steep sections of the embankments had to be protected with a flexible earth retaining block wall to reduce the erosion of the excavation face, excessive ingress of water and to make it more acceptable from an aesthetical point of view.”

We could showcase many more exemplary projects and applications, but let’s leave that for another time. Meanwhile we would like to wish you an equally successful year of 2013 with good health and much contentment.
