Case studies - Stormwater control, weirs & spillways
(page 1)

In nature, a near balanced situation exists
between precipitation, runoff and infiltration. An ever-increasing
rate of urbanization is upsetting this equilibrium and causing
severe soil erosion problems. Over the years, Terraforce and
Terrafix blocks have proven their value in finding environmentally
sound solutions, so much so that Mr Holger Rust was invited
to the World Summit of Sustainable Development in Johannesburg,
August 2002, to give a presentation
on Terraforce's involvement in ongoing erosion control.
Turbulence and rushing water can wash out other erosion control
systems. Due to Terraforce blocks' ability to withstand turbulence
and water velocities of up to 6m/sec, the Johannesburg City
Council often relies on these blocks.
Stormwater channels, cascades, spillways and weirs can be
constructed with Terraforce/Terrafix blocks. Professional
planning is critical in these instances. [back
