Terraforce
Retaining Wall at Saldanha Steel
To prepare the site for a future railway siding a 600m
long x 9m high retaining wall supporting the embankment
had to be designed offering true plantablity. Terraforce
was the ideal choice for this environmentally sensitive
installation.
The units were produced at a local factory only a few
kilometres from the site to standards set by Terraforce.
Two & a half months after 60 000 Terraforce L13
blocks were delivered to the site, the contract was
completed; within the prescribed time frame.
Winter rains have already set in and seeds of indigenous
plants previously collected on site and planted in the
Terraforce blocks have germinated.
This wall is now blending with the environment to provide
a habitat for many creatures.
Ultimately projects are judged not only by their engineering
merits but in terms of environmental compatibility.
